JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The St. Johns River will be an explosion of speed and horsepower Saturday during the 6th Annual Police and Fire River Rally Poker Run.

The city docks behind Metro Park looked more like a speedboat fanatic's dreamworld Friday night.

"Down here you've got the whole spectrum. I mean, you're talking boats anywhere from $30-40,000 all the way up into the millions!" said Charlotte boater T.J. Bailey.

On this hot weekend night his boats cowling is lifted to reveal two magnificent chrome-covered engines, idling with a throaty roar that reverberated right through onlookers' chests.

"They're two nationally aspirated 496's, they run at 600-horsepower at 6000 rpms," beamed the engaging 23-year-old.

He still doesn't know their top speed because they're in the "break-in" phase of operation.

"We bumped it up to around 80 (miles per hour) or so out on the ocean - just kind of keepin up and playin around!" said Bailey.

Welcome to the 6th annual Fire & Police River Rally Poker Run, with amazing machines from all over the country.

There are literally millions of dollars of boats for this poker run, but the only thing bigger than the engines are the hearts of the guys who operate them.

The event is all for charity.

Each of the 150-boats paid $425 to be here. That translates to thousands of dollars going to Tom Coughlin's J-Fund, as well as local police and fire charities.

"Spendin' time with friends and family and just havin' a blast! You know? You're down here for charity on top of that, and you can't have any better time on the water!" beamed T.J.

And while it is truly difficult to discern if these are men and machines -- or boys with their toys, the real winners of this weekend of speed and fun will be the charities and those they benefit.

Says T.J., "Just good old American fun, I guess!"
