Lake Cumberland PR 2004
Well we pulled back into the driveway about 6PM today. Three days at Cumberland and you are beat!
A very wise man (Sonny Spectre 30) once said... Doc, I know you have been on a lot of poker runs, but this will be the MOST ROUGH run you have every been on! If if is not tight, secure, and strapped down, you will have problems WOW, to those words ever ring true! Many of you know how the start at Jacksonville is, well it is a little worse at Cumberland and it last for over 60 miles. Then the last 45 miles are a little easier! There are five classes; Aqua 50 to 60 MPH Red 61 to 70 MPH Green 71 to 80 MPH White 91 to 100 MPH Orange 100+ They have five starts by color with the slowest starting first. There is five minutes between each color and the first card stop was 28 miles! There were 137 boats entered according Roger who buts on the run. He is a very nice guy that went out of his way to help us with some last minute details. The neat thing about this run is the spectators. I would estimate that around THREE THOUSAND people came out to watch from our boats and from the shore line. My trailer and truck brakes got a workout this weekend also. I just came in from washing the boat and the brakes still smell from Cumberland area and the Smokie Mountains! There were several boats from this area that we knew and we made new friends like Doug and Betty with the 38 Top Gun. I have 355 pictures to share and a lot of details to post if anyone is interested. Will try to get back online tomorrow. For now just a few pictures to get everyone started. We will begin with my favorite boat of the run. |

The above shots all were taken at "State Dock" which hosted the Poker Run this year.
We stayed at Jamestown just accross the cove and had a slip there for Dock. Jamestown is very nice. They have over 800 boats in the marina and have a water taxi moving you around it is so big! Not sure who the house boat belonged to with two helicopters, but it was not the only one we saw with choppers on top! |

Baja had a BIG presence at this run. There had to be around 40. Fountain and Outerlimits were both stong in numbers. There were about 6 to 8 Cigs including "StripPoker" that runs like a bat out of hell!
Spiderman was there as were a LOT of cats! |

The Baja house boat.
JR with Baja gave us a big surprise. This issue coming out of the Baja magazine has the Jacksonville Poker Run article in it and "Dock Holiday" is in the magazine! Thanks JR, great seeing you again and thanks for the hospitality. The house boat they had was built at the same time and exactly like one that was built for Garth Brooks that he has on his private lake for his childrens play house! |

My lovely wife has been very sick for almost a week now.
She was feeling much better Wednesday and looking forward to the run. Then she got worse Thursday and we almost canceled going all together. But being the boating freak she is and knowing how I love Poker Runs at 10PM Thursday night she had me a new crew and we pulled out at 5AM Friday morning. Thank you VERY MUCH "Boat Princess". It was not the same with you not being there. And a special thanks to my Son Anthony and his girl friend Tasha for helping out. I am VERY glad my son can handle both the truck and trailer and the boat. The ramps up there are a real bitch and your have to have a full crew! |
