Learning The Camera

I did not want to post these in the picture perfect thread because I don't think they are worthy, but I am learning. Some of you picture taken gurus take a look and tell me what you think. Please be gentle though. These were taken tonight starting at 6:00 and the last ones were at 7:20, so the light was going away fast. This was my 5 year old's first T-ball game and he was so into it, not.

love it and yes they are worthy of the Picture Perfect thread.
I really like how you captured the facial expressions-perfect! That is what it's all about, well done.

fyi, my target focus is to try to aim for one of the eyeballs then squeeze the shutter, not always easy on sports and children but that is my goal.

what lens are you using?
can you share the exif file data on the pics?

Thanks gociggie if I knew how to share the file I would, the only way I know how to do it is to type it in. This is the first pic of the team (f/5.6 at 1/400sec. ISO-400 Exp bias +0.3 and focal length was 105)
#2 is (f/10 at 1/125 sec. ISO-400 Exp bias +0.3 focal length 105mm)
#3 is (f/10 at 1/100 sec. ISO-400 Exp bias +0.3 FL 105mm)
#4 is (f/5.6 at 1/250 sec. ISO-400 +0.3 FL 105mm)
#5 is (f/6.3 at 1/320 sec. ISO-1600 +0.3 FL105mm)
#6 is (f/5.6 at 1/125 sec. ISO-1600 +0.3 FL 105mm)

The lens is an 18to105 Nikon VR AF-S and I don't think the focal lengths above are correct because they are all the same. That must be the max for the lens, I'm not sure where to get that info.

Looking like a pro already. Facial expressions are great. I think I would crop the one of him on 3rd base to a vertical. Which mode where you using(AV)? In low light sports I use AV and keep as wide of aperature as I can which is what it looks like you did on the last few.

Not sure what AV is but it sounds like Canon talk for Apature priority. Thats what I was using on all of them but I picked up the ISO on the last ones to allow for a faster shutter speed with a larger Apature. At least in my mind thats what I was doing.

Great pictures!! You guys seem to know alot about photography so ...is there a good book out there that I can read to learn more about digital photography? I have the first edition Canon Digital Rebel and have gotten a few good shots with it over the years but I would love to learn the ins and outs of it all. Thanks

That info is pretty complete.

To get EXIF info, look at the picture in the software that came with the camera or something like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop. There will be in one of the menus a choice for image info and it will show you the EXIF stuff. Like this
