Vacation Images & Stories.... Post Yours!

It's hard for someone from Ohio to admit....but my best vacations have been in Michigan. Here's a few pictures and some stories to go with 'em...

Best memory with my father was traveling from Clam Lake up through the Grass River to Bellaire, to get some steaks for lunch - probably 1968. Remember walking from the Intermediate River through the alleys and over to the restaurant, which is still there, but different name now (Toonie's). Took this shot in the alley last year, I just thought it was nostalgic-looking.

Last year I had my first chance to camp in the park at the east end of Bellaire; managed to snag a spot right on the water and take a picture just as the sun was going down. What a quiet and beautiful spot, made even more enjoyable by a belly-full of beer from Short's Brewery.

That little beach shack has been over where Clam River empties into Torch Lake for years; I have another photo my dad took of this little structure from 1962, when I was about the same size as the kid in this one. At that time, The Dockside was an IGA, and the little place next to it was a Pancake House - I can still remember the restrooms - "Gulls" and "Bouys" LOL. They used to sell treats and rent beach stuff from this little shack years ago - not sure what purpose it serves now. Could use a re-paint!

Great stuff Triple B. I've always wanted to make the crossing on my own bottom. Do you have a house in the keys or did you carry the boat down and rent? If so, where? Looks like a ton of fun and I really like the Nor-Tech.

There is nothing better then a Staycation when you live in Northern Michigan. We took a week of in July and the end of August last summer and spent it in the PQ. Had a blast. Not sure if it is going to work out this year.

Current vacation at our mountain house. Cell service here is marginal so post up more when I return to civilization.
