!!!!GOLDDIGGER!!!!
Total commitment to customer satisfaction led Outerlimits to expand its renowned Vee-bottom line to include a catamaran, making its debut at the 2007 Miami International Boat Show. The new 48’ cat was created for loyal Outerlimits customers who told Mike Fiore of their interests in purchasing a catamaran; true to Outerlimits’ responsiveness, the president went straight to the drawing board.
He consulted with Michael Peters Yacht Design, credited for numerous powerboat innovations that resulted in 11 U.I.M. Championships over 20 years. Peters’ championship Tencara design, made famous by the Victory Team in Dubai among others, but not yet used in the U.S., was the basis for the new Outerlimits catamaran. Peters worked with the Outerlimits design team to incorporate a hull that has been tested and tweaked; Outerlimits then added modifications to the deck to give it the style and flare that defines Outerlimits—sleek, and aerodynamic, with smooth, sultry lines. This first Outerlimits Cat is powered by twin Keith Eickert 598 cubic inch engines with Vortech Superchargers, achieving 1800 horsepower, using 110 racing fuel. This and other engine packages will be available, to produce the high speeds desired from this powerboat. The engines are housed in a unique carbon fiber “monocoque” bilge. From the French term for “eggshell” or “single” the seamless monocoque construction of the engine compartment makes it stronger, as the shell absorbs the stresses to the body and frame. Used in airplanes and race cars, in this powerboat, the uni-body shell also isolates vibration and noise. The engineering of the cat matches the technological perfection of the Outerlimits Vee-bottom. The carbon fiber, epoxy post-cured construction is used throughout, making the boat strong and light. Every weight saving effort was put into this cat so it will glide across water, but no Outerlimits amenities and features are sacrificed. The air-conditioned, closed cockpit is a color-coordinated extension of the exterior’s intricate artistic design. Removable doors convert to an open cockpit with minimal effort and the sit-down configuration provides comfortable, race-style, hand-built carbon fiber seating for six. Custom-embroidered head rests and billet footrests add to the luxury feel of the upholstered interior. The Art of Design (TAOD) paint scheme brings to life the owner-chosen name “Golddigger.” With brilliant gold and ruby red paint and the name repeated in a Gucci-style pattern across the boat and its custom-coordinated 2007 Peterbuilt tow vehicle, Golddigger will make a statement while being towed across the country on an American Tilt trailer. The combination paint package took over 3,000 TAOD man-hours, as excruciating attention to detail produced a paint scheme that combines non-metal fleck paint in deep tones and shading that change colors like jewels in the sunlight. California air brush artist, Yvonne Mecialis added a woman’s touch to the design by creating the voluptuous bodies that give a “007” style to the racy theme.
