Another screwing from a boat dealer

So I was working on a deal for a used Nautique that needed some work. (S30 and I had it all worked out to be done, all cosmetic interior) On Sunday (and I was there Sat too talking about it) the salesman and I made a deal on the price and I told him it was a deal, pending water test on Thrusday. Told him I was going to call him this afternoon to schedule it on Thursday. He said fine. Doesn't want any money, and I've know the owner for 15 years, spent a ton of money on water toys with him. Never able to buy a Nautique from him, because I lived in NJ, and Nautique enforced territories.

So I call the salesman today to schedule, and he tells me "I sold it". I tell him we had a deal, he says he didn't have any money. I said you didn't want any, and besides, no one buys a boat before a water test. He claims he talked to this guy before me. Now did he tell me there was someone else interested on Sunday NO!

So I call the owners cell phone. I said Tom WTF are you doing. he says well, its sold. I said you have know me for 15 years. He says you never did business with me..... I guess about $2-3000 in skis/ wake boards etc is not business. plus HE was the one that told me he couldn't sell me a boat when I lived in NJ.

So clearly both the owner and his salesman have the same ethics. NONE!!!

So anyone ever thinking about doing business with Adirondack Marine in Lake George, think twice.

Maybe it was a good thing that I didn't buy my last new Nautique from him,. because my dealer in NJ ordered it with all my option choices, and never asked me for a dime till it came in. and it was $30K MORE than this one...

Pretty much what happened to me on a deal right before we found the current boat. In that case, the dealers' son lives across the street from us, and both knew we had a negotiated a price pending sea trial.

not one damn bit. Just didn't expect it from a dealer I have know for 15 years. Not to mention the the other 2 dealers I deal with up here (ski-doo, and sea-doo) both took personal checks from me 6 years ago for stuff before they even knew me. about $30K worth.

yup. If the marine industry was any other industry they would all be in jail or out of business.

Try the horse business, I know you wont think so but its way worse.

One horse owner took more than $53 million over the past two decades from the city of Dixon, Ill, The amazing thing is the city only has a budget of $8-9 million. And she's not in jail!!!!!!!!!

Is she related to the owner of National Marine?

I don't even want to think of the ways you can get burnt in the horse business.

Course I have some clown on a Nautique forum telling me that my handshake deal isn't worth anything, right after he tells me that the dealer is one who is low key and would be the dealer to do handshake deals with.

I am a money talks kind of person. If I sell something I tell anyone interested that first person with the money gets the deal. Its fair to all involved. This suck tho because he said he didnt need any money.

At the very least he should have been upfront that there was another party interested.

when I sell stuff, I tell them that I want deposits too. But when the dealer agrees its a deal, pending water test, it should be. At most he could have told the customer yesterday that he had to wait a day and if I didn't call/test that the boat was his. It wasn't a boat that someone would walk from, as it needed a lot of cosmetic work, and the price was in the basement. I have not found one even close in price in the entire country, because most of them are at least double the price.

this guy payed way more then you were gonna get it for , the dealer saw a chance to make more money. I sold a car years ago to a friend but before he picked it up i was offered more money for it form someone else, i had to do the right thing and sell it for less due to already telling him i would.
