ANOTHER boat barn........................
Figured I've already hijacked marylandmark's thread enough and it was time to start my own.
Building a big azz garage(30 x 56 footprint with 15 ft walls.): I had been toying with the idea and after the 382 sold I had the $$$ but couldn't come to terms with building something so large on a .35 ac lot. Early spring I decided to go ahead and build a garage after getting quotes for pole barns vs stick built garages. My concern was making it look as much like the house as possible and decided to spend a little extra and stick build it. In the background is the "tent" I have been using for 6 years. It's 14 x 42 x 15 for comparison. It also sits just across a small ditch which puts it on my neighbors property (who also owns the field). He's let me keep it there and in turn I make a point to help cut that field in the summers. |

The project hit a number of delays before we even broke ground. The neighborhood HOA had approved it 2 years earlier when I found out the one "good ol boy" in the neighborhood was on the board. I submitted the application and he talked the other people into approving me.....needless to say I kept that letter!!! (and recently heard the current board wanted to stop this when they saw the walls go up but was never approached personally)
The county had issue and we finally figured out it was because there is an attached garage. I had to promise to enclose that one after this one was completed. Delays pushed us til May-June breaking ground. |

After the foundation was poured but before block went in.....it POURED. All the trenches filled with water and the kids had a good time playing in them. Turns out they weren't alone. What they thought was a frog turned out to be a little bigger.
Luckily my 13 year old came out with all his fingers considering he's fishing around trying to find the frog when he came up with this. Must have been a 20lbs snapping turtle. Never seen one around here but he sure liked that trench!!!! |

So the foundation finally gets going with no real surprises or issues. My wife is taking pictures during the process, sometimes out our bedroom window. It's now July. After the rock goes in I trenched power conduit, water and sewer lines for a sewage basin in the rear corner, cable TV, and have had to re-locate some of my sprinkler system piping. Unfortunately I have about 3-4 feet width to work with and must trench to the house in very confined spaces.

Concrete truck show up, no issues other than it's now late July. You can see some of the water lines to a sink and hot water heater sticking up out of the concrete.......and start to get an idea of scale. My 10 year old is a ham and just had to get in the pic.

I realized I haven't listed the specs!!!!!!
(care to add this to the first post guys??) 30 x 56 footprint with 15 ft walls. Walls are actually 3ft of block and 12 ft 2 x 6's. 8/12 room trusses which gives me a 14 x 56 ft room upstairs. Doors are commercial (steel both sides and insulated). Vinyl sided, shingled, and wrapped to match the house. Hanging corrugated metal for a "ceiling" and recessed t-5 lights going in. Being insulated like a house but will not have air/heat yet. Walls will be finished with tyvek home-wrap un-rolled backwards so the white side is facing out (a buddy did this and it looks like nice white finished walls). A 10 x 22 shed is going on the back to house my back-up gen for the house (powering the house from there), air compressor with lines piped in, mowers, gas cans, etc. |

OK John........
Here are the only interior pics I have. The dually is in for one of them and the scaffolding is current. That scaffolding is what they are going to use to install the ceiling, and staircase. I completed all the electrical myself and it is finished and tied into the house. There is 100amp service pulled from the house main panel. I have circuits for 15 outlets, 30amp for a H/W heater, welder, and air compressor. 50amp circuit for the gen to back feed power and a dedicated circuit to power a sewage pump in the sewage basin. Lights are wired but not installed since the ceiling is not in yet. Additional circuits have been run to power the upstairs whenever that happens. Insulation is in the walls and will be completed once the ceiling is in. |

So here's the finished product as far as the neighbors are concerned. These are from around Nov 1st and not alot has happened since. Ceiling, etc still needs to be completed and I just poured the footings for the rear shed (another project I've never tackled before but figured.....how bad can I screw it up? )
