Markel Insurance

Anybody have any feed back on Markel Insurance. I am considering doing a policy with them. I just want to be sure that I am going with a reputable company. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of options! The insurance industry doesn't favor smaller cat hulls. I am super pleased with the price and coverage, so hoping for "good news" on the feedback! Thanks Steve

Steve, give Stacy Shute a call at WakeZone insurance. She will give you the straight answer. I have a 25' Cat also that is a bear to get insured because of age and power.

I think she was the one that referred us to the Markel agent....................but just was hoping to get a refferal from someone that has used them. I don't want to pay , and then find out something wasn't just right with the boat or policy. I was completely above board on speed, and amount of use. Thanks for the info! Hope to catch up with you someday! Steve

Markel is THE major player. I had them on my boat. $9000 drive claim from a log strike. zero problems getting them to pay it.

I don't know why Stacy would send you elsewhere. I'm pretty sure she can write just about any boat out there

Now that sounds good! Appreciate the info. Maybe because this will be he 1st policy written for me on a cat, even though this is my 3rd one. Was never able to get insurance on them. I don't have a driving record, so would love to know what was up! Thanks again for the info, I will probably sign up with them.

1st Cat insurance is VERY hard to get. Lots of people end up with liability only, if they can get that.

Well I let my Nationwide Ins agent do the shopping, as he has had my business for 15+ yrs, and knows me personally. So maybe that helped. They are offering boat, motor and trailer + $500K liability. Now trying to match up an umbrella policy that will include the boat too. Current policy will not cover...........

I had Markel and cancelled my policy on a date that was not the policy ending date. In my opinion, they screwed me and charged me a giant cancellation fee for cancelling 3 months into a policy year after having been with them for over 3 years. I will never use those bastards again. And that is all I have to say about that.

That sucks!! But if you have been tryin to get any insurance for 6-7 yrs now, I really don't have many options! But I totally understand your stance!
BTW, I am originally from GR. Love the summers up there, just not the other 10 months!! LOL! Will be up for T-Day with family! Thanks for chiming in, Steve

Markel suxs the big one

They jerked me around on my policy. Tried to raise my rates when I bumped up the hp After I had checked with them first. Once the motors were done and i notified them they raised the rates. I had it in writing that they would not raise my rates since I had an active policy. They reniged so I canceled and went with Sy. He gave me a better rate still. Believe it when you get the policy in hand!!

Well I got my policy in the mail today, all set! I have to say, it is great to finally say that I have some coverage. Hope I NEVER have to use it, BUT thats why they call in insurance. Thanks for all the feedback, again I was at the mercy of who would even write a policy for right now. Maybe after I get some more clean history i might be able to shop around a little! See ya on the LAKE!
