Polaris ATV issues/questions...

I bought a Polaris Scrambler last month, its a 500 liquid cooled. 2 questions, first I notice the fan isn't turning. Does it turn on after it reaches a temp or all the time.

Second, after about 5 mins of running the front brakes start to seize up. The brake handle gets stiff too. I under screwed the reservoir and nothing changes. After it cools town the brakes free up and the handle is soft again. Any thoughts?

Either caliper piston but more likely the slides (#10) aren't moving in caliper well. These slides get gummed/seized up all the time in cars,

When the caliper doesn't want to move the pads, the brake will be super stiff because again, pads aren't moving.

Not sure if this matters but I rode it again after the brakes let up and only used the rear brakes. When I got back it happened again. Front brakes were hard as a rock and bike would move in N. I just don't get why there building pressure when not using them. Could they be dragging and the the heat makes the pressure build up? The disc are hot to the touch.

Also what do you think about the cooling fan?

Fluid expands when it gets hot. when it expands. it creates more pressure.

Metal expands too when it gets hot.

Might be an issue with the master cylinder. It should allow fluid to flow back in when the brake is not applied. If it doesn't, like CFM says if will expand, increase pressure and apply the brakes.

I have a Sportsman 800 and the fan is supposed to turn on when its hot, nothing but problems with it not turning on and overheating even with a new fan switch so I ended up hard wiring it to the battery and put a toggle switch on the dash, been great ever since!

Do they have fan controllers ? They are also called modules. I replace a lot of these in cars.

I think I'm going to tear into the calibers tomorrow. You would think when I unscrew the resivoir cap I could squeeze the brake but nope still stiff.

Anyone know what the override button is on the handle bars?

I think theres a relay in there somewhere. I did a little research and this seems like a cronic problem with these so I bypassed the whole system. Another guy I know has one and they never could fix the problem correctly so now I have a switch.

Funny story is I was in Tug Hill for snirt run last year and it overheated on me first thing in the morning, made it to our first stop, unplugged the fan and hooked it up to a booster pack and realized it worked fine. Went to some guys camp and got a few feet of speaker wire and electrical tape and hooked it directly to the battery. Just had to unlug it when we stopped. Good "bush fix" for the day!

I bet it is for the reverse speed. Push it in and it will go full speed in reverse.

Thats probably accurate, it cuts out when in reverse, which I assumed was a safety feature.
