Local customer standing on ice on Lake Charlevoix (4ft of water). No photo tricks. I have never seen the ice freeze like this. Pretty crazy.

How thick does the ice need to be to hold you .

4" but I would suggest more.

========================

Ihave only seen our ice a few times like Blue Oval showed. I believe it takes perfect conditions to do it - obviously not an ounce of wind amongst other things.

Very unnerving being on it being so clear, even when plenty thick.

Here you go Mikes280.

General ice thickness guidelines

For new, clear ice only

2" or less - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck

I personally don't go out till 8" or more. Preferably 10" +. You never know how thick the ice is a few feet from here you are.
I won't go out with a vehicle until 20" +. More " preferable for me to feel totally at ease.

I have a few short times over past 20+ years where the ice has froze that smooth and clear in front of my house.
For sure get out and enjoy skating.

Ice fisherman on my lake have proven time and time again that less than 2" of ice will hold 70-80 fisherman, 3 quads, 4 shanties, 26 augers, and assorted hardware in 50 square feet of space.
Not that I will join them, but happens ALL the time.
Remember a week and a half ago I even had an airplane stuffed into the ice
