Liquid Jungle Poker Run Aug 21st

Liquid Jungle Poker Run 2004!!
-A benefit for the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota-

Listed here are the stops planned for the poker run to be held on August 21st, 2004. Lunch will be each person’s own financial responsibility, as will any other refreshments purchased at the establishments.

Our goal is to put on an event that will be the highlight of the 2004 boating season. We will be making a 100 mile round trip with stops at some of the Upper Mississippi Rivers finest establishment, as well as passing miles upon mile of breath taking scenery.

Our first priority is safety and we will be sharing a few simple guidelines during the day to ensure the maximum enjoyment by everyone involved. Once you arrive at the card stop, please hang out and wait for all the boats to get their cards before continuing on. This will help keep everyone together so we can all enjoy the scenery of fiberglass and hardware.

Boat launch and truck and trailer parking will be free for Poker Run participants at Great River Harbor. The launch is plenty big and deep to accommodate crafts of very large size. Boat parking will be available to Poker Run participants at the main dock. Participants will be allowed to overnight at the main dock, but water and electricity cannot be guaranteed. If you would like to rent a private slip with water and electricity call Great River Harbor at 608-248-2454 to reserve one (when reserving slips please be sure to tell them that you are coming for the poker run).

The upper Mississippi power boaters have teamed up with a professional cameraman and helicopter pilot to bring you an action packed video of the poker run. The video will contain footage shot throughout the day including both ground footage as well as helicopter footage of all the boats participating in the run. The video will be for sale to poker run participants as well as the general public. The price as well as information on obtaining a copy will be available the day of the run.

Staff will be available on site to answer any questions or address any concerns you have the day of the event.

Start/Drivers Meeting/Card 1

We will be starting from Great River Harbor (mile marker 748). Every person involved in the Poker Run will need to sign a waiver at this point. Drivers meeting will be at 9:45 am shooting for a 10 am departure. We will be leaving Great River Harbor and heading upstream to lock through lock and dam #4(mile marker 763). We will then be venturing upstream slowing for a NO WAKE (mile marker 760) in front of Wabasha MN (Home of “Grumpy old Men”). There will be a lot of boat congestion from Wabasha to the Southern Mouth of Lake Pepin. We ask that everyone take caution, run at a max of 2 abreast and travel at a slowed pace through this area.

Card Stop 2/ Grand Prix Start
(17 miles from start/card 1)

We will be having a drive by card stop at the south mouth of lake Pepin (mile marker 765approx.). After everyone has received his or her cards we will be having a Grand Prix Start. Everyone will need to line up one deep behind the flag/pace boat, forming a line across the lake. The flag/pace boat will bring everyone up onto plane, then raise the green flag. Once the green flag is raised, boats will be allowed to pass the pace/flag boat. We will then be heading upstream passing Lake City Minnesota then through the Northern Mouth of Lake Pepin slowing for a NO WAKE by Colvill Municipal park (mile marker 788.4). After the NO WAKE we will be continuing on to another NO WAKE in front of Historic Red Wing MN.

Card Stop 3 (25.5 miles from card 2)

Harbor Bar across the channel from Red Wing MN. (mile marker 790.5) Parking will be provided in front of and next to the Harbor Bar (rafting may be necessary). We should be arriving here near lunchtime. We will be breaking for a bite to eat and some socializing. This will be our farthest point North. We will be leaving and traveling downstream retracing our previous course for a long run to the Pioneer Supper Club again with a slow for the NO WAKE in Wabasha MN.

Card Stop 4 (37.5 miles from Card 3)

Pioneer Supper Club (mile marker 753) docking will again be provided in front of the Pioneer Supper Club. Please observe NO WAKE near the docks. The dock space will be limited, but given the very calm current of the backwaters and the NO WAKE, rafting up will be a breeze. We need to lock through Lock and Dam #4 to reach our next card stop. We will be in contact with the lockmaster and will be judging the length of our stay based on the availability of the lock. Once locked through we will continue downstream to Lock and Dam #5.

Card stop 5 (14 miles from card 4)

We will make our final card stop a drive by stop just north of lock and dam #5(mile marker 739approx.). This will be our farthest point south. We will then return upstream, venturing back to the Great River Harbor for the finish of the run.

Finish (9 miles from Card 5)

Great River Harbor (mile marker 748) is located cozily in the backwaters on the WI side of the channel. At mile marker 748 you will see red and green buoys leading into the backwaters on the East side of the cannel. Following the buoys will wind you back to Great River Harbor. Please observe the NO WAKE zone. Temporary and overnight docking will be provided at the main dock. This will be our Head Quarters for our card turn-in and prize giveaway. We will also be having a hog roast with all the fixings as well as a live band playing into the night. Everyone is welcome to overnight if you should so choose.
