Using a stern pick up we can pretty much fill the thing as fast as we need to - the hardware is available from the US - try Stainless marine - come back to me and I'll find out where ours came from if you need to know. One very important thing - you need AT LEAST the same amount of breather diameter as the inlet pipe - otherwise the resulting air pressure the first time you fill the thing up will result in water and shattered fibreglass going everywhere! If you want to know whether it will work or not - get a sandbag of the approximate size you think you can take and secure it in the nose of the boat on a rough day and see if it helps - you must take the bag out of the boat to compare as it might make a differance in the cockpit as well! Personally I would go with whatever fits and how the boat handles, but we used to run about 50 litres / kilos in a 18' race boat with a Merc 2 litre 200hp outboard running mid seventies in race trim. Don't forget changing the pro can help as much as anything in choppy conditions! Feel free to ask any more questions if I havn't explained it very well - I have been known to ramble a bit!

Great plan BUT!.......... What happens when you are collecting water at say 60 mph from your stern mounted pickup and you're not sure when it's full?
And it it's in a holding tank what is the rubber for?

the rubber bladder, like in race cars, when completely shrunk, then fill,it will go up and down inside its holding tank.when its full is another problem.

Sutphen is right, but I'd like to see those bass boats in the water that Cookee runs in do 10 mph, let alone 70. I had one fool try to run me on the Delaware River he was doing fine till we hit some cruiser wakes. He got pounded, and backed way off:D :D :D

I suppose we mostly race in force 3 to 4 winds, and depending on the wind / tide etc that means 2 or 3 foot waves up to 10 to 12 foot swells offshore when it picks up!
Up untill this season we have been racing against 24' batboats - You have the inboard version racing over there - and we are always beating them in the rough although they generally have a higher top speed in the flat. We are racing with the other RIBs this season to promote the leisure version of the race boat and are confident of some good results - but anything can happen in racing! By the way never seen a bass boat over here - have they got quite flat bottoms and designed for flat water?

Don't forget we were racing against the 2 litre outboard version and they hate going downwind! In a following sea they are too pointy and act like a submarine!
