I need some engine help with my 13' Whaler....
I am the owner of 2 boats. A 13' Boston Whaler, and a 7ft Dingy. Here are the pix.
The dingy now has a Mercury 4HP motor, and runs fast, and smooth, but my new Boston Whaler is a problem. I need to find a good 30hp motor for it, and i've looked everywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated! SAM Summer Vacation Part 2 001.jpg sunday and idk... 003.jpg |

It would have to be a 25hp or a 30 hp motor... and the boat has a cable steering system... and the boat needs alot of other stuff as well.... this is gonna be a big project for me.....

Welcome to the world of being a 2 boat owner- learn early, it gets much more expensive later in life if you don't.....
Back when that boat was made a 30HP was the weight of a 50HP these days. Put a 50 on it with a backing plate to distribute the weight and torque and start shootin some rooster tails! |

not to be a buzz-kill here BUT,
Sam, I think you are around 14-15 years old, so you (we) should really pay attention to the Coast Guard max horsepower rating for that vessel. It is there for a reason and also check with your parents insurance policy. In todays litigious environment, If anything happens to U or anyone else around you because of your (illegal) actions in modifications with these boats your parents may be liable as well and and stand to lose much. ...unless its for racing only, with proper equip and the proper coverage, it may be o.k. just my .02 . Be Safe and stay ambitious! ALWAYS USE YOUR LIFEJACKET

keep the boston whaler, i too had to save and work very hard and bought a 13 with the rated 40 hp, it came from a viking yacht and was very neat, i was 18 when i bought it.
your on the right track keep your whits about you and you will be fine, make friends with a local wrench who works on outboards and you will learn a ton. One day you will be in a boat like dry mar! |
