Here's the captains letter with all the information on the Smith Mountain Lake Poker Run. This run had around 65 boats last year and is a lot of fun since being consolidated into the Mariners Landing Condos. If you have never been it is a beautiful lake.

Fellow Captains,
The Smith Mountain Lake Boating Association has been hard at work since the end of
last year’s successful event to make the 2012 poker run THE PREMIER event on the
east coast. After the long winter is over, you will be ready for one of the longest running
poker run events in the US. The SMLBA is proud to announce that the 15
th Annual Tom Maynard Memorial Poker Run will be held on May 18
th and 19th 2012 and this is your VIP invitation. We have kept the successful changes from the 2011 poker run and the 2012 event is setting up to be one of the most memorable SMLBA Poker Runs. First, the opening festivities on Friday night May 18th will be held at Bridgewater Plaza
(Mangos) with dinner and two bands. The Kings and Fuzzy Logic will keep everyone
dancing and this year the SMLBA will once again provide bus transportation to and from
Mariners Landing. The Saturday events will all take place at Mariners Landing. They will
have 75 slips available (with security). If you want to leave your boat (in your assigned
slip) overnight the $8.00 docking fee is complimentary for participants. The Captains
meeting (mandatory) and the start of the poker run will be at Mariners Landing and the
awards banquet/dinner/dance upon your return. Once again this year we will have a
complimentary Beer Garden starting at 4:00pm with access to the pool (weather
permitting). New this year, if participants are interested, Mariners Landing will provide
the same room rates if you want to arrive on Thursday May 17
th for a fun run to a place to be determined by participants. This is something that has been requested by our Captains
in recent years so come early and have an extra day of fun! Check our website for

We have secured the same room rates as last year for the condos at Mariners Landing so
you can stay and play at the same location. The SMLBA with Mariners Landing has
blocked 60 condos that will be available on January 2, 2012 until March 1, 2012 on a first
come first serve basis. Our special (plus taxes and 5% amenity fee) rate is:
Pointe One Bedroom, One Bath Studio Suite = $99.00/night
Pointe One Bedroom, One Bath Waterfront Condominium = $139.00/night
Pointe Two Bedroom, Two Bath Waterfront Condominium = $179.00/night
Pointe Three Bedroom, Two Bath Waterfront Condominium = $219.00/night
Tell Mariners that you are with the poker run when making reservations. Your charge
will occur, but refunds are available two weeks prior to the event. This is a magnificent
resort with a championship 18 hole golf course. Check out their website at

check in if needed at no additional charge and it will be granted if room is not booked.
Also a late checkout of 12pm for no additional charge is possible if your room is not
booked for the following Sunday. Note: rates may go up after April 2012.
This is the unofficial start of the season at Smith Mountain Lake and because of the
success in recent years, we are not only anticipating a full 75 boats, but an early sellout as
well. Send in your registration form and $350.00 for two players now. You may add additional players and guest later (see player registration form). Be sure to
note Captains name on the form.

Awesome Poker Run, we had an engine failure there 2 years ago had to sit last year out, so we can't wait to avenge our misfortune. Beautiful lake, resort is first class all the way, docks are awesome and about 50 yards from the resort. HOWEVER, I can't say we like it better, but the Friday night beach type party is the best I have ever attended, and the BFs that know me, know that I am NOT a party animal. The KINGS are without a doubt PRO quality all the way. HIGH ENERGY performance does not even come close to a proper description. I could listen to them all night long. They play everthing, top 40, Classic Rock, Country, Prince, Jimmy Buffett.... they are worth the cost of the PR, even if you don't take a boat.

I had been meaning to do this for a while with the pictures I purchased from Swede after last year's poker run at SML. Just got the finished frame job back this weekend.
