View Full Version : Lake Harris Run - Lake County Florida
CAVelocity
02-20-2007, 07:15 AM
In an effort to help some of the recent tornado victims in our area, a few of us have gotten together and are now ready to officially announce the "Lake Harris Rally for Humanity" to benefit Central Florida tornado victims.
The run itself will be on Saturday March 17, with a meet and greet the Friday before, and a fun run and rafting party on Sunday.
We are still working out some of the details, but the lunch stop at Crazy Gators in Eustis and the banquet at Harborside Restaurant on the Dead River are locked in. The Saturday run will start at Hickory Point Park (south of Tavares on Hwy 19, on the north side of the Howey Bridge) with registration and a drivers meeting. From there the run will have card stops throughout Lake Harris and Lake Eustis, for a total distance of approx. 50 miles.
Please see the attached flyer and visit www.lakeharrisrun.com for more information and to register.

Not sure which hotel everyone is staying at, but we gave a list of local hotels on the site. I would recommend checking here first..
Days Inn & Suites Tavares
15000 US Hwy 441
Tavares, FL 32778 US
352-742-8022
Good boat parking and close to ramps and events.
Its about 2 blocks away from Gators Dockside and other restaurants.
If everyone who "says" there coming shows up we expect to have about 30 boats so far... but we do need people to go ahead and signup on the site so we can confirm the lunch and dinner numbers..
If you have not signed up please do so...
Thanks,
Jack

We hope to do this every year from here on out. This event will more then likely be a small event compared to others out there, but it should be a good time none the less.
We made a few changes to the schedule as we ended up getting the Pavilion at Hickory Point for the day. So dinner will be there directly after the run, which should work out better anyway.
Lunch will also be catered now as well. Just more money that can go to charity.
We will be updating the site with the additional information and route maps this weekend and I will post an updated flier here as well.
Right now we have 12 boats and approx. 30 people committed for the run. We were hoping for about 20+, but we will see. Might get a late sign up burst towards the end.
In case we didn't mention it before, we will have aerial photography and video for the run as well. With a smaller group we should be able to get some great shots.
If your on the fence, come on out.. it will be a good time and for a good cause.
See you there..
Jack

Will take you about 2 hours give or take a bit if you go the Palatka then Hwy 19 route. Not sure what construction is like that way, but was clean last time I was through there.
Otherwise your options are 95 to 44 to 19
Or as another option .. 95 to I4 to 46 west to 441 ...
Right now we have 17 boats confirmed and there are about 4 or 5 other possibles.. So we might make or 20+ after all.
You can email me at jwilburn AT gmail.com or PM me if you need additional info.

Im in the process of packing to go out of state for a few days, so I don't have much time to post pics so here is the link to all 243 of them... LOL
It was a GREAT day and a great run, I think we raised nearly 7K for the charity, and the weather ended up being pretty nice. You can tell by the tie up pics in the afternoon..
I will follow up with details when I get a chance..

My buddy, Jim, was in the red and white Donzi 22 Classic. He said it was rough. He had twin rev limiters sitting in the back seat that made it tough for him: his wife and his mom.:D If it had just been him and his dad, he'd have run a lot harder. He said it was calming down near the end. His dad lives up there at Lady Lake, he left his boat there, because he's coming back next weekend to go to the Mt Dora Antique Boat Show. We always have a Donzi gathering during the boat show. I'm sure anyone that wants to run with us is welcome. We are planning on running to Crazy Gators on Saturday for lunch. I'll be launching from Hickory Point.
My buddy said if I would have come, I should have brought the 302 Formula. I had to stay at home, but it was a profitable day, I sold my Donzi Minx. We still have the 22 to take to Dora next weekend.

Here is the 36 Nortech. I believe he is from Port Orange. He won the poker hand and donated the money right back to the tornado vicitims. Super nice guy.
