Mercury can't even build enough current 300-400-450 outboards. How the hell they think they can build these?

I keep hearing the word modular which to me means the 8-10-12 cylinders are all going to use the same parts. More interchangeable parts should speed up production.

The problem I see is that all the new boat manufacturers get first dibs, so there is nothing left for the aftermarket. We were down in KW last week and my wife commented on all the Poker Run Boats with 4,5 and even 6 outboards on them, no wonder we can't find what we want (currently have 3 - 275's on the Intrepid - but wanted to switch to the V8 300). Going to pull the boat over the weekend and do the 1,000 hr Mercury recommended tune up, etc.

absolutely correct. These multi engine million dollar boats get them, and if you need one its too bad for you. Good luck to people that have warranty claims.

A 450 is about $65K retail. If I needed one and offered $100K I couldn't get one. Last time I checked they were 18 months out.

The old V6 300, the 350 and 400 were all the same motor with different programs. You used to be able to get a 350 programed up to more than 450, but Mercury clamped down on something and that went away, except somewhere on the dark side.

I assume you meant L6 and not V6, and yes they were the same motor except for programing
And FWIW the 350 was about 325hp and the 400 was about 370 hp, I asked the guy at Mercury who did the programing for these about the 450hp claim and was told any more programing , fuel, boost and etc produced very little extra power but put a ton more heat into the motor

Also the rumor going around is a super charged version of the V10, would make sense since that what they did with the V8

yes L6. confused the new V8 300's I had and the others
The story I got on my 350's was that they made 350+ on 93 and less on 87 or 89. No clue if its correct, but I never saw any difference more than maybe 1 mph running 93 vs 87 or 89.
Interesting on the quote from the Merc guy, because even Whipple was selling the reprograms with the HP claims and not saying they wouldn't fudge numbers but it would be easy to tell on the boat if they were true or not.
Kinda a moot point, as my S/C's are blue now.

If you really ant one?
