Ryan , from Bay city to to where ( coarse / date / launch area / marina ) and have you thought about accomodations yet .........................because Saginaw / Bay city are not the nicest areas around on that side of the State .

As I said on the other site, I am game to do any run locally. If you guys get something going that isnt on the same day as the couple other runs I do, for sure will be in. In all reality though, I personally think if you want to have a class A run that is really nice you should look at doing it out of Tawas. The water is way nicer/cleaner, the state dock is great, hotels/bars/resturaunts/beaches within walking distance. Plus it is all deep/open water. Could run from there across to Caseville via Charity Island, AuGres, Oscoda whatever you like. Bay City is fine too though, lots of options for entertainment, hotels right there etc. If you get something going let me know, you need any leg work around Bay City I am there all the time.

Not to stir the pot :stirpot but i agree with you 100% on having the poker run out of Tawas or even Oscoda for that very same reason's listed in your last post, and to tell you the truth i honestly believe that entertaiment woud be provided by local establishments and the community if they knew there was such an event coming to there town considering....... there just might be an offshore powerboat race this summer in that very same area .

I agree on the community support. The east side of Lake Huron has taken a huge hit due to the economy. That is the vacation area for Flint/Saginaw/Bay City as well as Detroit/Ann Arbor, all of which are in the crapper. Not nearly as much tourism/travel there these days, we had a place up there and it has really slowed down. Tawas harbor used to be very busy, now you can take your pick of dock space. Too bad because its a top notch facility, and the town is very nice.

In 2000 I ran my Black Thunder in the “Bay City Poker Run” It was covered by Powerboat Magazine. Attached is the article that was done on us and the event

The run was fun but had a couple of issues with one of the stops (Too shallow for many to enter the channel) After this event I decided to talk to my friend Bob about starting our own event . It started the wheels running to get Smoke On The Water Poker Run going the next year

Bay city can be a fun place to run out of but as was stated Accommodations are a bit sparse. But then again we stayed on the boat :)

Just to add some additional info. We are working with several partners in Bay City to create a first class event. We have made great progress over the last few weeks.

As far as accomidations we are working with 3 of the major hotels that are within 5-10 minutes of Vets Park and Midland St.

This is one of the main reasons we are interested in starting this poker run out of Bay City. There are shallow areas of the Saginaw Bay, mainly near small rivers and marina inlets which we will steer clear of. We are hoping to attract all types of boats and want all boaters not to have to worry one bit of water depth. With a well planned course this should be the last thought in the head.

Have you got any stops in mind? Just curious. Jason , i am interested in that also ,and with that in mind is there a size limit to the boats that might want to attend ,and Java is there a size limit for the run that is scheduled earlier in July ?

No size limit, there are local guys with 38's and 42's that I know are planning on running. Some out of town friends are talking about it as well who run 40+ footers. There has been a lot of interest locally, lots of smaller boats in the area who have never done a poker run and want to try it. I hope both these events go well, very exciting to have something local to do. If all this goes on, it will be a busy summer. I will probably run both these events if they happen, our Saber rally in Grand Haven July 21, trying to get some guys to run Boyne with me, Lk. St. Clair Run in June, and a trip to Put-in-Bay/Kellys Island in late August. Praying for cheaper fuel and no brakedowns lol.
