RIP.. :(

LONG ISLAND (WABC) -- Two people were killed when their race boat flipped off Long Island Sunday.

A Coast Guard official says the boat was racing in the Great South Bay in Patchogue.

The two people were not breathing when they were removed from the water, according to authorities.

The Coast Guard official says the boat was racing as part of the Battle on the Bay when it flipped. The official says the boat, which was traveling at a high rate of speed, likely flipped because of the choppy water conditions.

Suffolk County harbor units searched the water, found the two and brought them to shore to waiting ambulances. Both victims were taken to Brookhaven Hospital in cardiac arrest. They were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Battle On The Bay is presented by the Offshore Powerboat Association/Geico Miss Geico Triple Crown Series.

I hate when this stuff happens.. It really put a damper on a great weekend we were having. Seeing the medics come to the dock performing cpr was really sad... :( :(

The whole ride home my wife and I couldn't stop talking about it. Although we couldn;t see what happened, it happened very fast. They made the turn in front of us and headed towards the back end of the course. We could hear him throttling down for the turn, then all the sudden we just heard a loud POP and saw water, that was it. Moments later the medics, police, copters etc. were all on the scene and all the boats stopped nearby.

RIP fellas.

Going over is quick .
Surviving is very likely ,
most likely .

This 39 was built safe .
Did it get old ?
did it get altered ?

Remember when charlie haimes throttled randy linebauch to his demise?
many at first blamed the boat ,then the survivor ?
Neither were a fair assesment .It was an accident !

So was this .

learn from it ,
What the lessons are, from today .... We dont know yet , .But we will .

Two good men are gone ,thats the deal tonite ,lets deal with that .

Any true offshore associate will agree , lets give it the time it needs to stop the next one .

Devastating- I didn't know that they were brothers. Tough enough that they have both passed on, unbearable to think a single family has to deal with the loss of them both.

I see this boat cruising LI Sound often. I am pretty sure it had 525's...maybe had big power back in the day.

Teriible to hear this.

VIP how do you know what it was powered with? I am just curious to know. I thought it was powered with twin merc 525's as of June? Did he change out motors or something?

Rumor has it they were around 1350 installed by TnT.

I was wrong above- they were not brothers as it was initially reported in one of the news clips. Still a devastating loss but wanted to set the record straight.

According to JC Performance(Over on OSO), the motors are Ron Potter 1200's.
